Dungeons and Dragons Part I

The long and winding road to the mysterious dungeon which will possibly lead us to the land of sodomy. Get ready your passport and set foot your journey into the Marsiling Dungeon, one of the best kept secret of urban legends in Singapore. Located deep in a secluded forest right opposite our of friendly neighbours, it is rumoured to be a tunnel that might possibly linked to Johor Bahru, if not at least a complicated tunnel network like the Paris Catacombs. In the Paris Catacombs, tons of dead bodies were disposed into the underground network when the plague hit them hard. The underground tunnel filled with skeletons is so deep that it can't be estimated, and some said it leads to the gate of hell. Same thing cannot be said for our local dungeon, let's not speculate too much and enjoy the scenery before commencing on the operation.

Based on my past experience, we walked to the specific check point along the road and break track into the forest. Dressed in casual outfit, we admitted that we were over confident hopping to explore without a hitch, in fact we suffered countless mosquito bites and swerving branches hit during navigation. Therefore valuable lesson learnt here is to wear appropriate clothing for the right occasion, it's a miracle that we didn't get dengue or bites from the enormous spider.

Here we go again !

Who left his boots here ?

Check point number 2, a series of green pipes run across this area. The dungeon is still nowhere to be seen, trekking uphill is the way to go. Our slippers have provided barely traction to conquer the slopes, sometimes i needed a push by my buddy to make it to the top, it would be unthinkable if it had rained before the expedition.

Soon we came across what it looked like an entrance to the legendary dungeon, not quite actually. It is not something that i had stumbled upon last time, nevertheless it's should be something worth checking it out. It could have easily be overlooked as the thick forestation has concealed the place to blend with the surrounding. The height of the entrance is merely a metre high, so like a crouching tiger we made our way in slowly, anticipating the hidden dragon who are the guardian of the dungeon.

A larger room connects, at least we were able to stand with our heads high

see we have to stoop lowly to penetrate here
Photobucket

Behold and meet the dragon descendants !
Photobucket

Now meet the formidable dragons lizards, keepers of the dungeon. In my opinion they are much more scarier than you-dunno-what (appears in the month of august), imagine the horde of them swarm to you and creeps on your body! Luckily none of them drop on us when we were taking photographs at close distance phew.

Photobucket

Nothing interesting around inside except a basin like concrete structure and 2 more even smaller tunnel that spread to left and right to the outside world. This is not the actual dungeon but a lizard den for productivity purposes, maybe in ten thousand years they might evolve into almighty dragons.

Photobucket

The air outside definitely was fresher. After we got out the fake dungeon, we spent more time getting the right direction and effort trekking in the rough terrain. Not be deceived by the pictures here, it was very difficult to walk in the dense forestation, often we had to made decisions which path to take in order to overcome the natural barriers. The longer we stayed there, the slimmer the chance we gonna find the actual dungeon. Since things ain't picking up, we had to call it a day and come again another time with proper dressing.

A blue tentage appeared out of nowhere, but it is not a sex den
Photobucket

Around the area we discovered a man hole !
Could it be the million dollar fugitive hideout ?

Camera inserted into the dark revealed empty shell

By then we were already totally exhausted in the search for the dungeon, made worse with uncountable mosquitoes bites and scratches by the spiky thorns. Quickly figured out the way out direction and bashed the hell out of the forest, civilization is still the best.

Actually we came out of nowhere near some temporary temple
Photobucket

We will be back again with vengeance with better equipment and stronger crew. The setback will not deter us but it will serve as a valuable experience to survive in the forest, the dungeons are calling us and i know it's near...

Alright out of topic for awhile, i'm been selected to represent my department for group photoshoot to portray the new image of turf club with the introduction of new uniform. At least do something special before i leave, hope it doesn't turn out too badly because i'm not handsome or photogenic haha. Till then watch out for Dungeons and Dragons Part II, i know part I is very anti-climax like Red Cliff heh.

Wedding of Jack & Gina

Arrr i totally forgot about the Night Festival @ National Museum, it would have been a more enriching way to spend a saturday night in the Museum, than to watch sexy ladies performing pole dancing in one of the lounge along the sleazy streets in Tanjong Pagar. Ok it's not just about skimpy ladies dancing, there is also live band who rock the house doing the One Night In Beijing Gig.

Write up on the exploration will follow up soon, be patient and keep your fingers crossed !

Ezy 50 @ Neil Road.
Have you ever wondered why they always like to add a One in front of the name, One Raffles Quay, One Fullerton, One Robinson Quay, One Marina Boulevard ... Sure it sounds nice as Number One ! How about opening a stall and call it One Ton Mee ( wanton mee ) ?

Rainy weather has made things extremely difficult for us to navigate, will be back when the sun is shining brightly.

Here are some photos taken at the shotgun wedding otherwise keep reading my forest expedition journal also can get quite boring right ? For the fans of such post, good news for you. The next trip we will be heading to dungeons in search of the legendary dragons, join us for more adventures next week !

Earlier post i mentioned that i will be going overseas to work, that's a lie fabricated by me. Surprisingly no one fell for it except for one gullible friend of mine despite knowing me for 10 years haha. For the clueless friends out there, i will be working in a government R&D agency as a humble engineer. In the meantime enjoy while it last, the future of the blog will be decided again when the time comes.

Almost time's up for horse racing ):

Secrets of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Photobucket

Our outdoor adventure resumed on a wet afternoon when we thought that the morning storm would spoil our plan to explore the secret hideout in Bukit Timah Hill. Officer lala will lead us to the spot which he discovered during schooling when he attempted to steal a treasure from the forest, and he succeeded in doing so. What exactly is so interesting over here apart from hiking numerous steps and slopes ? Pay carefully to the surrounding and you might just be rewarded to catch rare sightings of native animals, be a bit adventurous for a chance to hit the jackpot !

Welcome to the national nature reserve icon, step into Bukit Timah Reserve and you will experience nature in its pristine form. Just for your information, the number of tree species growing a a mere hectare if the Reserve is more than the total number of tree species in all of North America. If you haven't been to this place before then you ought to be shot in the chest, a lighter penalty would be a smack on the ass. The first hinder to conquer Bukit Timah no doubt would be the ultra steep slope at the entrance which i reckon would turn off many people including me yeah. It almost 45 degree inclined and you can sure there would be lots of cursing and swearing along the slope journey.

To the 3 young men like us who went through straineous NS training, it was simply a piece of cake to reach the top (panting profusely, NS training was donkey years ago seems like). Our officer observed around to look for the checkpoint which will lead us to the first destination. We hiked off track to spot the sign board located deep inside the forest where it cannot be viewed from the main track.

Despite the warnings from the authority, we went against it to go near the cliff. Any slight carelessness would result a fall from the cliff at the height of 100 meter, safety was absolutely the main concern at that moment. At any one time only 1 person was allowed to stand near the cliff, the person right behind would be providing support by holding his pants. That's the closest we can go although we wanted to be hero like in the movie Cliffhanger.

Committing suicide is not an option

After a close shave with the cliff, we proceeded to the next destination with tons of stairs along the way. Upon reaching checkpoint number 2, we steered off track again for the main highlights of the day; Cryptocoryne xtimahensis. There's nothing wrong with my spelling and you are reading English, read on to find out what on earth is that xyz thingy.

lalala aka tony leung is the observer
Photobucket

At last our efforts not wasted after slogging out feet in the muddy ground, the ultimate treasure awaits us in it's own private corner. Introducing Cryptocoryne xtimahensis which can only be found in singapore. It grows near the top of the hill in a very tiny stream in an artificial pond which is formed by damming the stream. Another interesting about this crypt, is it is never found fruiting.

It would be a waste if we don't soak our feet in the cooling nature spring water. Combining the effects of Pedicure and Fish Spa, this is the best thing you can ever get in nature reserve, free of charge ! Take off your shoe and feel the soil of mother earth, experience is priceless.

Photobucket

Fish spa is outdated, Shrimp Spa is the new trend !
Ouch the pincer hurts.

This little shrimps will crawl to your feet and do therapy for you

When we were done with the spa, it's time to move on and leave the world we called it little paradise. All the handsome boiboi gathered for a group photograph to serve as a memory that we accomplished something that nobody had done before heh.

How can go home empty handed, must at least
kio some mango for dessert right !

The fun is finally coming to an end, there will be a major change in my lifestyle. Like i always said that my blog future is uncertain, looks like the final nail will be hammered soon. Those who know me don't have to speculate too much lah, maybe i will shed some light on the next post. Ok i will be attached to Western Australian Turf Club in Perth to work for 1 year, sounds like a pretty exciting opportunity huh.
